Thud!

This morning I curled up on the love seat after giving all the little mouths their breakfasts. A few moments after I laid down I felt a warm little body on my feet. I looked over. Then had an internal THUD! It was Wooter! I ended up falling asleep and she was still there, two hours later! For me & Wooter the cuddly moments are few & far between so this really made my day =) I hope she keeps it up.

Limey Water

Practically the only thing I consumed all day. My girl and man seem to have caught a tummy bug. Looks like she's finished with it but he started today and all day I've been tired and no appetite. If we're all going to be sick at least let it be while I'm on break.

We've seen eggs like this before in our big tank (probably from the Catfish) but tonight we transfered the eggs into their own tank. In a week we may have 'kittens'!

If this post works, I just may start a 365 blog from my phone! Image quality won't be greatest but perhaps this project could be seen as practice? Let's see what happens! Oh, this pic is of Tai-Grr going nuts on me. I was trying to study and he decided it was a nice moment to head-butt and bunny-kick my lower extremities. He now has a stuffed blue dachshound to attack. =)

Good Thing It Wasn't A Bar Tab...
Today Marshmallow girl and I went to the public library for the first time since June. Guess how many books are living with us temporarily? Eleven. Yes, eleven. She chose six, I got five. My choices were focused on kids and cats. Hers was more of a mixed bag, but most of them have animals in them in one way or another. It was nice to get back to the library again. Taking M there is a bit of an adventure, she wants to take every book she sees home with her! I discuss options with her before leaving in hopes there will be a shred of order to the event but it always seems to end up that we aren't going over to the electronic card catalog and looking up a topic to choose books from. She wants to go straight into the shelves and pick out the pretty ones that are featured on the display racks, or random ones that are facing out deep inside the shelves. Now, I don't mind that so much, the variety is a good thing for both of us. It's just a little difficult to wrangle in my little Bibliophile when she's in the heat of the chase! It makes me smile though, her talent for words is amazing to me!

I Fought The Door And The Door Won
Before we left for the library, I had to run back into the house from the garage because I forgot my cell phone. So I dashed back inside and grabbed my phone and on my way back out my left middle finger tip got smashed in the door. I bit my lips together, held back the strings of cursing and got into the drivers seat and cried a little. After I regained control, M snapped out some remark about me taking up her library time. She thought I was faking it. I lost it. I feel bad about doing so, especially since the car seats probably blocked her view of the performance at the door. The pain was still very fresh and I yelled at her about how no, I really DID slam my finger in the door and it really DID hurt and she wouldn't like it if HER finger got slammed in a door and look, here's my swollen colorful finger to prove it. Then she started crying too.  So there we were, a couple bawling girls in the back seat of a car in the driveway. We had some cuddle time and I apologized for yelling and tried to explain how when people hurt really bad they don't always make good decisions. Half an hour after the garage door first opened we were on our way for some library love! Things went fine for most of the rest of the afternoon, but then I was with M in her room and playing pretend with her. We were on the floor and her knee decided my puffy finger would make a nice stepping cushion. The thing had just stopped throbbing a little while before that too. *sigh*

Rebel Milestone
Another noteworthy event happened today. The CF card in my Rebel finally filled up! All this time I've kept the old images on the card after copying to my hard drive. Don't ask why, that's just how it's happened. Ten weeks of photo fun. I'm sure if we were still in the Honolulu area it wouldn't have lasted half as long. Hello, Flickr Fridays anyone? ;) Speaking of, I hope to be able to add more photos to my stream soon.

My finger is giving me 'The Finger' so I better go.

Lens Love, Stories, School

I have not had much time to get out and shoot with my Rebel XT, which was given to me by my husband for Christmas, but I have been loving the little bits of shooting time when they come. It's been a long time since I've shot in the snow though, and I needed to spend some time reading tips on the Internet about how our cameras perceive the drastic lighting, and what I, as a photographer, need to do for compensation. Thank goodness for photo editing software! PhotoShop Elements, paint.net, and picnik have saved quite a few recent shots from the feared recycle bin. I would like to rely less upon fixing the shots afterward, and be able to set things up right the first time. It's going to take time to relearn.

There was a one and a half hour intermission for story time with husband and daughter. We talked about our days, and M told us about her "How To" story was how to buy a cat. We pointed out to her that not all cats are bought, which lead DH to tell the story of finding and raising our baby Wooter, then i told her about the birth of old Roofus. After that I read the books M checked out from her school library.

I'm also playing around with the Auto Exposure Bracketing feature in my shooting. It's really interesting to me to see how adding and taking away light from the image can really change it. There is a Time-Life series about Photography on my bookshelf. The copy of "Light and Film" must be read when my next school break happens.

Speaking of school, things are going well. It looks like I will be getting a "B" average for now. This quarter consists of Perspectives, a study skills oriented class; Technical Writing, which focuses on grammar and writing in the technical style; and Medical Terminology, which is learning lots of words needed in the future as a student and out in the field as an official Veterinary Technician. Next quarter will have Chemistry and Medical Math for me. I am only attending classes part time and it will take me twice as long to earn my degree but I am glad to have the extra time for focusing on classes and family time easier.

Thorns and Crystal Balls

Recently I had a "light bulb moment" regarding why I view my computer as such a thorn in my side, especially when doing homework is concerned. I believe it is because, my computer is viewed as a toy rather than a tool. I've spent so many years primarily gaming and web browsing that when I sit down at my desk, I have the idea of fun so deeply engraved in my brain that it's quite difficult to switch gears and write a paper. The only application which can be running is the word processor or else something will pull my thoughts away. Changing how I view my computer is something to be molded over these next couple years. I also need to de-clutter my desk. But that tale of woe is for another night.

If you had a reliable, accurate, crystal ball what would you use it for? Right now I wish I had one to know how much longer our old cat Roofus will be with us. We are considering I-131 radiation, a rather pricey treatment, for him and it would be nice to know for sure if he'd live long enough to make the cost of the procedure "worth it". We can continue to treat his Hyperthyroidism (HT) with medication but we've spent as much on the meds so far that we would have spent on the treatment. The decision does not need to be made immediately. His meds are stabilizing his HT fairly well. It sure would be nice if we did get the I-131 done though. It would mean no more meds for him, far fewer trips to the Veterinarian, and his body could function normally again after so many years of being out of sorts.
